PKF O’Connor Davies Honored with 2018 Age Smart Employer Award
New York, NY (January 25, 2018) – PKF O’Connor Davies, LLP, the nation’s 28th largest accounting and advisory firm, announced today it was named a winner of the 2018 Age Smart Employer Awards. The award, presented by the Columbia Aging Center at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, recognizes organizations that hire, retain and engage workers of all ages using top policies and practices.
“At PKF O’Connor Davies, we’ve worked hard to create a culture of inclusion where professionals of all ages and experience levels learn from one another and push each other to be the best they can be,” said Tom Blaney, Partner and Executive Committee Member. “You see that collaboration in action here every day at our firm, and the work we deliver for clients is better for it. We are honored to be among the finalists for the Age Smart Employer Awards because it truly embodies who we are as an organization.”
PKF O’Connor Davies hires talented and experienced partners facing mandatory retirement policies at other accounting firms and prioritizes creating flexible schedules and offering tuition reimbursement for employees. The Firm also uses a 360-degree review program and monthly employee surveys to ensure all team members have a chance to propose ideas and implement positive changes.
“The Age Smart Employers are leaders – ahead of the curve – adopting practices that make work work for their employees,” Dr. Ruth Finkelstein, Associate Director of the Columbia Aging Center and founder of the awards said in the release announcing the awards. “So many of these practices help older, experienced workers stay on the job (or join the firm) AND help younger workers, too.”
The awards were announced at the third annual Age Smart Employer Awards earlier this year. The selection committee is composed of New York City leaders in business, workforce development and academia. Organizations were judged on 10 employment practices that support a smart workplace — great benefits, opportunities for advancement, responsiveness to employees’ ideas to improve the physical work environment, a culture and atmosphere that demonstrates workers are valued, training at all career levels, educational opportunities, flexible work arrangements, job restructuring to accommodate employees’ changing needs, phased retirement, and work or volunteer opportunities for retirees.
Other winners include Lee Spring, National Grid, Silvercup Studios, Urban Health Plan and Riverdale Country School.
PKF O’Connor Davies now has nine offices in four states and continues to expand with mergers and acquisitions in the Northeast and Washington, D.C. region. Twenty-three of its partners are over 50 and began at the staff level before working their way up to their current leadership roles.
